Tea for Four

Tea for Four

A Poem by SummerSnow

Agnes sings, a lift in her step
As she sets the table for four
Her very best china, best silverware
And the centerpiece they all adore

The teapot starts whistling, ready at last
The biscuits starting to brown
The raspberry jam, made by her hand
And the honey bought from near town

A setting for Mary, her very best friend
Just to the right of her own
A setting for Lucy, another for Meg
It was nice not to feel so alone

Agnes pours tea, leaves room for cream
A biscuit served on each plate
Everything perfect, ready to start
The tea party scheduled at eight

Agnes sits down, raises her cup
A toast to all of her friends
“Here’s to our friendship, I hold it dear
My memory of you never ends”

For Lucy had passed, just this last month
Meg the year before last
And dear friend Mary, friends for so long
Gone for so many years passed

Agnes is finished, tea party done
Silently sits there and smiles
“Thank you my friends, for joining me here
I’ll be joining you in a short while”
