Temporary Relief

Temporary Relief

A Poem by Sumo

Your warmth invites me in, yet I procrastinate my arrival
I dread being together, yet this need is primal
You’re a reminder of my loneliness
Each night I succumb to your call
With tear filled eyes I digress as I fall
I reposition, from one side to the other
In my search to find some semblance of comfort for my slumber
Each passing moment I pray for my temporary relief from life’s pain
Thoughts, worries, sadness overflow
Obstructing my goal
Darkness finally takes me
Seemingly momentary
My eyelids prop open
Bringing me back to reality
I adorn my mask
Pretending as best I can I’m alright
Anxious for another brief escape
Awaiting me the next night
