The Cold Dark

The Cold Dark

A Poem by Dorian Gray
"

This is a dark poem pointing out the flaws in man. Trying to be light in a dark world is the theme behind it.

"
It's creeping closer day by day.
The more I try to shine
Harder it is to keep shadows at bay.
I've been told I'll be fine
Years have past and I can't find a way.

I'm trying to find my flame.
The more things change
the more they stay the same.
We are a funny race pure and strange.

Another great poem. To me it reads better if the fifth line ("years have past and I can't find a way.") is absent. I'm not sure if that's because the rhyming scheme works better from one stanza to the next or because the next line repeats the inability to find a "way" or "flame." Also, I might try adding a "the" before "harder" and see what you think. I would have to say that I feel the same way about human kind.
