An engima

An engima

A Poem by Sunil Sharma

 An Enigma

Sometimes as cold

As the marble in the

Icy winter;

Sometimes as warm

As the mid-day desert

Wind, rising

And enveloping

Everybody in its tight hug;

Visible like a car/coffee ad,

Sometimes invisible,

Like the smile of a

Poor Asian widow,

Clad in white, and

Confined to the back

Of the dark house;

Laughing loud, like

Kids returning home,

After a long school day,

Sad, like a young engineer

Rejected in interview,

For the fifth time,

Despite a glittering M.Tech;

Very close, like the heart-beat,

Very far-off, like

 A nearby brother/sister,

That never call,

Because I do not exist;

A newspaper puzzle,

An unread letter,

As the recipient had left,

A courier not delivered,

A delayed monsoon;

So many moods,

One silent rejection;

Still that open laughter,

And shining eyes;

The inviting look,

And the intervening distance,

Well, well,

An enigma---

You are.

My dear Valentine!
