Dead WeightA Poem by Jimmy DeadmanI don't like most people.
Before I go to sleep at night just look me in the eyes
Nothing holds you close to me but sugar-coated lies I'll take your words of wisdom and I'll shove ' em in my bag Travel 'round the world with them and fly my (false) white flag Tell me how you feel, why don't you tell me what you think I must've dropped my hearing aide into the kitchen sink If ya wanna make decisions, if ya wanna have a plan Turn on that hot water, please, and tell me who I am I'm the snake that bit your brother I'm the rock to smash it dead I'm the venom in his veins I'm "along with" not "instead" I'll be in your heart, my love And I'll be in your head The face you say you know as mine Has been long gone and dead There's nothing in this place I want to take around and share I'm emptying my lungs, don't even wanna breathe the air My blood is saturated with the lonliness outside They all just want to look around through dead and dying eyes When makeshift walls are holding up, when everybody stares The way you lie around is like a lion in a snare Roaring at the sun but sitting blindly in the dark You might escape the chains but you be sure they'll leave a mark Like the snake that bit your brother Like the rock to smash it dead Suck the venom from his veins You'll be the dying one instead I'll be in your heart, my love And I'll be in your head I was there when you were dying But I did not hear what you said © 2014 Jimmy DeadmanAuthor's Note
