I've Found My Language

I've Found My Language

A Poem by Frank Purcell

I've always battled to find the words
To express myself when face to face
Telling someone how i feel
Has always made me feel out of place

I've never been able to get across
The topic that im trying to explain
I always forgot mid sentence
And it was driving me insane!

But then i was left bored one day
I had only my piece of paper and a pen
And thats how i found my language
Starting with a letter to a friend

And in the years that followed after
I wrote daily until i could write no more
I would have written each night away
If not for my fingers becoming stiff and sore

After a while my writing stopped
No encouragement and most didn't understand
I didnt get the support i needed
And soon i, myself, forgot who i am

Now im back, and writing again
In fact, now im writing more than i ever did
And i can finally once again express
Those feelings that were being hid

So i sit here, writing, about my writing
Now able to type 53 words a minute
And yet im able to still capture every thought
And still keep all the power and passion in it!
