Something

Something

A Poem by Dean

Robert Frost says something
Mark Strand says something
Psychiatrists probe for something
Philosophers wonder about something
Priests excavate the something
Covering the soul

The stain, the wonder, the hidden gem
The name, the illusion, the forever god
and in its thrall, the wakebound night
that stills the latent pride in line
as something...
anything to break the fall

"We know this" as Keillor says
What we know not is what it is
Nor shall it ever be
for we relentlessly pursue
the mystery and never free
for Something out there

(Where?) laughs
with an earned derision as
one more little bard of history
lays down his tiny tribute
on a something-kind of pedestal
some         where
