Your Love Pulls Me Apart

Your Love Pulls Me Apart

A Poem by C.T. Bailey
"

This is a silly little poem written specifically for a Halloween party/Poetry reading I will be attending next month. Even though a poor write, it is written in iambic tetrameter.

"

For reasons which I will explain,

they stretch me on this rack in pain,

with every turn of terror’s wheel,

in tortured plea I beg repeal.

But ears will never hear my claims,

for king and queen refused the same,

my joints and tendons ache and scream

and from my eyes the blood will stream.

What crime exists that I might die

in shackled anguish by and by?

Because of passions for fair maid,

                because my kisses were betrayed,

                because m’lady told her mum,

that she made love to servant scum.

The heart is such a slave to lust,

'tis blinded by her royal bust,

but now it’s very clear to me,

one cannot breed a pedigree!

A great regret I can express,

forbidden love with fair princess.
