The Armor of my Heart

The Armor of my Heart

A Poem by Andrainea Silverlite

I stand out in the pale moonlight.

My armor gleams brightly

While I sigh into the cold night air.

I can hear the urgent stamping

Of the horses near by.

It is nearly time.

Soon, the rush of battle will commence.

Screams, blood, and metal.

All the sounds and sights of war.

So, I wear this armor

Over my heart.

Nothing gets in.

Nothing gets out.

I glance once more

Out onto the dark field

And prepare myself for one last ride.

I smirk in the darkness

As I mount my steed.

Soon.

Very soon.

I shall triumph

And die.
