Occam's Razor

Occam's Razor

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

We live in a deceptive age

Where all of life’s a masquerade;

Where truth with untruth teems

And nothing’s ever as it seems

Fancy, flashy, glossy books

Are rarely worth the second look -

Dusty books with tattered pages

May hold the secrets of the ages;

Wolves pull the wool over our eyes

Clothe their wiles in garb of lies -

Ignorance is posed in graduation robes

Still we applaud the Emperor’s new clothes

Water-preaching pastors promise wealth on the telly

Pleading for donations to swell their beer bellies;

Lie-peddling schools mass-produce fools

Misguided youths live for reefer and jewels

A myopic generation can’t focus beyond the reel;

Big Brother peddling illusions as real

Two-faced governments lying to you

Two-faced governments spying on you…

In a suspicious time

Keep a suspicious mind

In a den of thieves

Keep a dagger up your sleeve

’Cause the gullible are fallible

And get robbed of their valuables;

The complacent postulator

Nicks himself on Occam’s razor.
