Cheques & Balances

Cheques & Balances

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

The world of cheques and balances

Has me quite beffudled

Where the line between business

And robbery, is muddled -

This murky world of dubious statements

Of investments and vested interests

Confuses me, who finds compound interest

As confounding as it is interesting;

The world of shadowy bankers

Whose influence spreads everywhere

Who own a part of every cent

And spin money out of thin air

Money makes the world spin -

And it is spinning yet -

Like Rumpelstilskin, they weave gold from yarns

To clothe us in a garb of debt

Thick as thieves,

Slick as oil spills,

Impenetrable as Greek phalanxes

Who will check this unbalanced world,

A world of cheques and balances?

A clever and thought-provoking write. I enjoyed the read. ~ Robert.

Most members are there just to solicit praise for their own pieces, rather than to take much of an interest in those of others. Thankfully, there is an exception to that rule.
