Little Star

Little Star

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

A lesson on the composition of the Solar System.

"

I asked,

“Why is life so difficult,

Why do I have to struggle for everything?

Why do I have to sweat and toil

For the things that come so easily to others?

Why is it that  nobody ever seems to

See me for what I’m truly worth?

Why do I always get passed over?

Why don’t people recognize

The immense talent and potential

I possess?

Why can’t I ever catch a break

Or command the attention I deserve?

I toil in vain - recognition is scarce -

And praise - when I prise it from their reluctant, miserly hearts -

Is hollow and insincere.

I’m a scorching flame,

A blinding light;

A brilliant, burning young star.

Why won’t this beastly, envious world

Let me shine?”

He nodded, and chuckled

And stroked his beard

And smiled a sympathetic smile;

“You know, young star,” he said to me

“Perhaps the world does not revolve around you.”

Wonderfully written and deep. I totally identify with your words. My sentiments echoed. Nice use of rhetorical questions and layout.
