![]() LeaderA Poem by Chris![]() If the world is burning would you know.![]() Is this my leader I see now Standing in front of me so bravely The fire he holds in his hand Is wielded like a weapon He beckons forth with it Waving it like crazy So the light paints stripes across the air And the visage speaks only of intensity Soon I become frightened Unaware of my surroundings But those around me they watch With nothing but sheer amusement in their eyes This spectacle is so riveting But the heat is bringing my blood to boil The trees, the shrubbery is melting away Smoke drifts upward from the fire The landscape around me is transforming The world is becoming enveloped In a smoky grey gas condensing Onto my clothes Onto my skin I see birds trying to fly But the world is burning to fast The gas it rises too quickly They are brought down before their flight has begun And now all the animals Other than human run With nowhere to go As the heat singes the earth Causing luminous flames to spread They perish Still all the while those around me Their eyes are fixed on the man Waving the fire so brightly Back and forth back and forth Soon I begin to give in Simply dedicate my attention to him My worries flutter away with my distraction Quite unlike the dying birds For how long I watch this I could not say It is only when he trips and falls Into the American flag Burning it as it entangles him I snap out of hypnosis As America burns I now see the world Dying right in front of me Like butter I am melting And now the others realize The light from their eyes extinguishes Sadly, the fire does not Before my life falters to a halt I see around me the same thing happening Hundreds of flags Thousands of burning victims When our eyes are focused on the fire We cannot see what it burns.© 2015 Chris |
