Don't look now my humanity is showing

Don't look now my humanity is showing

A Poem by Tabby Mac
"

The bareness of soul...

"
What then do we have left in life?
If stripped down to our humanity.
If I know deep down...
I could lose it all in a day...
What then do I have to say?

I've been homeless.
I've been abused.
Both ways...don't be confused.
My extended family is not present.
It can be empty and desolate.

I have little left.
Tho what I hold, is all I have.
But, I don't own them either.
My three beautiful children
My husband...so kind
No...they are not truly mine.

Tomorrow or even now...
Fate could make them take their final bow.
So when it wells up in me;
fear of all fears
of God himself
And all his power.
It makes me cower.

But then I get up
I tell the fear to shut up!
For, even if the one and only God above...
took my only loves,
he will
somehow...somehow
still make me whole.

Until my final last breath
because I am eternal.
This life.
My loves.
We look to something higher.

And, if I don't hold tight to this anchor...
The very breath within me is not for me to take.
I would give up right now, make no mistake.
The promise is all I have!

That is why I am who I am.
As genuine as I can possibly be
loving, giving, encouraging.

For if this God given freedom I have
is able to be shared...
I'm dishing it out with a passion,
I'm not scared.
Take it, it's free!

My life has been painful
and hard thus far.
Some choices were mine...
some were beyond my control.
But to be brought high not low
is beyond what I can explain.
And even still when the choice is hard
I try not to complain.

Ask yourself if you believe.
Find that faith hiding in the deep!
Nurture it, feed it, allow it to grow...
because...
if we are honest we never know.

You are very welcome. ...::::)))))
The importance of benevolence linked to patience, determination, care and dignity; what greater qualities to face unknown adversities should they arise! Having faith and fortitude poetically described make this both a sincere and emotional write, but also a lesson for us all the digest and reflect … got that ‘Hummm’ factor! :-)

Extremely deep poem. I love that open-ended question in the last line in stanza one "What then do I have to say?" This is a question almost everybody could answers in their own personal lives! Well done!!

Whew... Believe the deep nature of faith can save thee... Stripped down to nothing, we have nothing but nothing to save us from something worse than not knowing...

3rd stanza second line, typo on "tho" 'though'

I'm not at all religious but I felt some of those motivations emotionally when I read this. Thoughts on eternal consciousness and a higher power are easy to get bogged down with simplistic and sterile dogma. You did well to keep the human emotion throughout.

On a random note, I never read the analogy you used of clinging to an anchor in a positive light... so, that was interesting.

There is a movie on Netflix called "Discovery" starring Robert Redford that deals with the question of an afterlife and an "eternal soul" in a very tangible manner without being silly. You should watch it, I think you'd enjoy it.
