Love's Response

Love's Response

A Poem by Shep
"

This poem is about my response to a situation which made me realize just what love is, and how strongly a person truly can feel about another.

"

It’s when they hurt

In your heart you fear,

Like the pond’s ripple

From a single tear.

The feeling, no. Reaction.

Is worry.

When your mind lags

And your body hurries.

In the moment

You think it’s Like,

As you look at the one

Who to you is Life.

You see the fear, the worry... the Like

And that your heart, is a dove.

For the fear lives on,

Much as the ripples on a pond.

Yet as those ripples subside,

In thankfulness you’ll sigh.

That’s when you know.

It’s not Like you feel, but Love.

Hi fellow Tennesseean,
I love your use of diction and the way the words flow. For a first attempt in years, it's pretty good. I would separate the piece into stanzas, maybe, just to make it easier on the eyes. I found my eyes skipping lines and missing word because I was trying to read it all at once...because it's so good! Lol, maybe it's just me...

I liked how momentary the feeling is in this, not overly complex but traditional in the description. Still, it has a genuine and universal emotion in it, which is always a worthy thing to put into words. I think you did well in that, and I enjoyed the ongoing simile of a pond's ripples.
