Phantom Friend

Phantom Friend

One night I saw a ghost outside my door

And through it I stared forevermore

I saw a glistening tear in her eye

I spoke to her “Please, don’t cry.”

She spun a tale about the past

And now she knows it doesn’t last

For now her home is 6 feet deep

What is with her that she can keep?

Her head it fell to one side

A muffled choke she tried to hide

I saw the pain in her vacant soul

I pled to her “Let me console

The hurt inside you must bear

Let me show you that I can care.”

She said she couldn’t let me see

Of how her life came out to be

She tried so hard to be what I am

But it never went according to plan

For so many words left unsaid

Only to regret after she was dead

All the hurt she left unmended

All the pain she never intended

All the tears she made fall

And how she couldn’t help at all

Her life to her a total waste

No mark left to mark her place

For once she lived and then she died

I opened the door and she came inside
