The Silhouette

The Silhouette

A Poem by Tracie D'Angelo

Under the full winter moon
Pregnant with the mysteries of the ages
Casting her ethereal glow
Across the water black as pitch
A silhouette of a man sitting silent
Beckoning the moon's secrets
Sits all alone
Bathed in yellow light
Hold back
Be patient
Hold the moment frozen in memory
Such a small man
In the world that surrounds him
I know you can be scared
I know you feel self-doubt
I know you can't hold all of us
Without having to lay us down
For a moment
And rest
Have your moment
While I watch silently over you

Maybe I should explain a bit about where this poem is coming from since it's one of my favorites. I wrote this for my husband at a time when his job was very demanding and he got a job offer from another company. I stay home with the kids so he is responsible for everyone. Sometimes the pressure can be a bit overwhelming to be responsible for three people. I take care of the family and it's my job to be that rock that everyone can cling to when they feel they are drowning. Does that make sense? :)

I wonder who this man…is.
Oh..your husband..
I thought…you are referring to the particular phase……of life…
Through which every human being passes in his journey of life…
Loved the feel of poem very much….
Excellent…work

I enjoyed this poem but not the title. I was drawn in by the power of the scenery not the people in it! If you have a different POV, though, I can also see why you like it.
Great poem. I love the metaphor about being pregnant with the mysteries of the ages.
