He Pretends

He Pretends

A Poem by T. Edana Talbott

He pretends to be normal.
He acts sane when inside he’s ashamed.
He tries to laugh off the pain.
He hates his first and last name.
He sees his life as a losing game.

He pretends he doesn’t love her.
He acts indifferent when he really cares too much.
He tries to block out her face.
He hates the sound of her name.
He sees her as another judging face.

He pretends his life is all okay.
He puts on a smirk to hide all his quirks.
He tries to grin as he sins.
He hates his lack of innocence.
He sees himself as a light gone dim.

I love how you've written from a male perspective. Very deep and sorrowful. Very, very good
