Lamppost Romance

Lamppost Romance

A Poem by Ted

You know, it is as easy

To declare your love to lampposts,

 As it is to women

It takes a few words,

Carefully baked

And a few flowers,

Or a new light bulb for that matter

You’ll linger till it’s dark

And freezing cold

And then you’ll leave

And your baked words

Will drop like heavy snowflakes

And the flowers will die of frostbite

Then you’ll find another that will

Cast it’s light upon you

So, you know, it’s so, so easy

To declare your love…

I really like this piece. It's fanciful and stark at the same time, not an easy feat. The carefully baked words gives the poem a nice heaviness I think. This work has been smoothed out a few times, yet it looks effortless. . .
