LIZBETH RIDES 1961

LIZBETH RIDES 1961

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A GIRL RIDES HER BIKE TO SEE A BOY SHE LIKE SIN 1961

"

Lizbeth rides
her cycle
taking in

the hedgerows
on narrow
country lanes

birds flying
overhead
her red hair

fluttering
as she rides
she thinking

of Benny
meeting him
where he said

she's moody
had a row
back at home

with her dark
mood mother
over boys

or her room
untidy
laziness

and shortness
of her dress
its down hill

from here on
gathering
a high speed

high hedgerows
flashing past
up ahead

she sees him
standing there
with sunlight
in his hair.

that rebellious time---the messy room, the moody life...the finding of sunlight in another rebel of that age---always feeling that the parents just don't understand us.
