HOTEL 1967

HOTEL 1967

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN AND WOMAN MEET AT AN HOTEL IN LONDON IN 1967 FOR SEX

"

The hotel

(some cheap place)

I had booked

in London

with some dame

on the desk

was where I

met Nima

she was late

some hold up

by doctors

about this

about that

with her drugs

it's not much

I told her

I can see

that it's not

she replied

at least it's

a place we

can have sex

come by train?

I asked her

yes just come

got the tube

to this place

she replied

I've been to

Dobell's shop

(record shop)

bought some jazz

I told her

the woman

at the desk

eyed us both

what's the names?

she asked us

just married

the name's Rice

I told her

she looked at

the notebook

on her desk

just sign in

she told us

we signed in

we went up

narrow stairs

to a door

and went in

double bed

very old

chest of drawers

an antique

a bathroom

and toilet

adequate

we undressed

very slow

piece by piece

each eyeing

the other

like artists

preparing

to create

an art work

before it

was too late.
