SECOND DATE 1973

SECOND DATE 1973

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN AND HIS TWO DATES AND LIES AND LIFE IN 1973

"

Miss Pinkie catches me up

in the wash room

(laundry room

to be precise)

how comes you didn't

come last night?

she asks me

something turned up

at the last moment

and I couldn't get out

to ring you

I say

what turned up?

she asks

a friend I've not

seen for awhile

I lie

putting on my

Mr Sincere face

who was the friend?

Some guy

(a girl but

I couldn't tell

her that)

I used to know

I see

she says

how about tonight?

she asks

I can put

on the Mahler

and have some

booze ready?

I guess so

I say

don't put yourself out

she says moodily

no problem

I say

(the young girl

comes to mind

more my age

that Miss Pinkie is)

what is it?

she asks

found some other p***y?

I look at her

gaze past her

at the washing machine

turning a fast spin

no one else

I say

just that this guy

may show up again

well bring him along

she says

I'd like to meet

this friend

(she'd screw him too

if she had her way)

I'll see what he says

I say

if he shows

otherwise I'll be around

she holds me tight

her arms around me

make it worth your while

she says

I smile

she kisses

some one enters

the laundry room

and we part

and I go my way

and she goes hers

(the young girl

is away for a day

or so so I'll see Miss Pinkie

no doubt)

I think

what is

my life about?
