NO NEED TO SE IT 1959

NO NEED TO SE IT 1959

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

KIDS IN A NURSING HOME IN 1959 ENGLAND AND A GIRL JOKES ON OTHERS.

"

One-legged Anne
sat at the outdoor
breakfast table
at a nursing home for kids
a warm morning

Anne said
hey Skinny Kid
do you know what
a derrière is?

Benny said
no

isn't it
a kind of fish?
said Colm

no it's fecking not
Anne said

I'm telling Sister Bridget
you swore
Lulu said

what did I say then?
Anne asked

you said fecking
Lulu said

well go tell the Bridget
we both swore
Anne replied

Lulu sat glum

did you want
to see my derrière Kid?

I guess so
Benny said

where'd you keep it?
Colm asked

mind your business Colm

if he can see it
why can't I?
Colm asked

I said so
Anne said

I'm off to tell the nuns
you won't show me
your derrière
Colm said

go tell them Colm
and see what they say
Anne said

I will
said Colm
and up and left
the table

why can't I see
your derrière ?
Lulu said

show us your scars
on your arse then
Anne said
where you burnt yourself
falling in a fire

no I won't
Lulu said
you're rude
she went off in a huff

Benny watched Lulu go
where'd you keep
this thing?
Benny asked
and what is it?

it's derived from old French
and it means your arse Kid
Anne said laughing

o I see
Benny said
but I've see it

seen what?
Anne said

your derrière
Benny said

when?
Anne said

when I helped you
in the bath the other night
and you said
not to tell the nuns

o so I did
of course
well there you are
Anne said with a stare
no need to see
my derrière.
