HAD HIS DAY

HAD HIS DAY

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN STUDIES A YOUNG COUPLE IN A COFFEE CAFE AND REMEMBERS HIS YOUTH

"

They're young,
she's a sexy thing,
Johnny muses,
watching from his

dark corner
of the coffee cafe
sipping his latte
listening to one

talking of housing shortage
and immigration disorder
or some such talk,
the young guy

across the way,
seeing the young dame
before him talks soft
and she smiles,

and Johnny takes note
of body language,
of eye contact,
facial expression,

and he thinks way back
in the 1970s he would
have sat thus,
have seen,

have touched,
have worded words
no doubt poetically,
but at the end

it was the same game,
the same master plan,
to seek sex,
to arouse,

get into her
under garments
if you can,
but that was then,

Johnny muses,
sipping his latte,
as another talks
of some politician

on the ropes,
he studies the young couple,
takes in the supposedly
same game,

she with neat
hid away tits
and no doubt
hid out of sight

other interesting bits.
Johnny looks away,
his latte warm
and smooth,

he knows he's had
his day.
