THOUGHTS IN PASSING 1962A Poem by Terry CollettA BOY AND GIRL MEET AT SCHOOL IN 1962Elaine rushed through the school corridors to get outside at lunchtime recess passing crowds of boys and girls here and there some by the tuck shop crowding the area she tried to get by but it was difficult don't push Frumpy a girl said she held back and tried another way and got through and onto the sports field which had a few kids already there and there by the fence was John talking to another boy she hesitated nearby feeling awkward not sure what to do and John called out over here Elaine so she went over and the boy walked away and John said how was your morning? ok she said but couldn't wait to see you how was your morning? not bad as far as brain washing goes I guess he said smiling and so she smiled too and it felt good to smile it made her feel relaxed was it water plants the subject? she asked yes it was he said but I won't bore you with the details come let's move up field more away from the crowds who'll come out soon ok she said and walked with him up field he thinking of the surprise going to her house on the Sunday and seeing her and she thinking how near his hand was and if she should grab it and hold it but she didn't and the moment passed by like a bright summer sky. © 2015 Terry Collett |
