THE COMING OF SNOW.

THE COMING OF SNOW.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN AND HIS WIFE AT A CAFE.

"

She's leaving
Johnny's wife says

who's leaving?

the female barista
you know
the one
with the small tattoo
on her neck
who smiles
when we come
to the cafe

why's she leaving?
Johnny says

she doesn't get on
with the guy
with the ponytail
that hippy barista

o I'd rather
he left than her
Johnny says

well that's how
it is
his wife says
sipping her cappuccino

yes I guess
but that's sad
like some one
stealing the Mona Lisa
from the art gallery
he says

he sips his latte

his wife reads
the newspaper

he glances over
at the barista
takes in
her small tattoo
the tied back
dark hair
the eyes
dark olives
in seashells

look at that
his wife says
(he already had)
showing him
the headlines

he gazes at the page
at some news item
of the age

but he will miss
the barista
once she's gone

but there you go
he muses
one misses summer
with the coming of snow.
