VAN GOGH LOOKS DOWN 1972

VAN GOGH LOOKS DOWN 1972

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN AND WOMAN AND THE ART SHOP AND AFTERWARDS IN 1972

"

Picasso
or Miro
won't sell here

Abela
says to me
they're just prints

make us look
a modern
studio

of art work
rather than that
water stuff

you bring in
by local
dumb artists

I tell her
but they sell
she replies

overpriced
under skilled
darn art work

I utter
it's what sells
people like things

that they know
country scenes
river scenes

they like them
besides that
I'm the art

manager
of this shop
she replies

she goes off
to serve some
customer

who's come in
recalling
that evening

after work
when the shop
had been closed

money banked
and we went
to some bar

drank and ate
then went back
to her place

and made love
until late
and above

her soft bed
a large print
of Van Gogh

looking down
by one's head
with that look

that he had
with those eyes
searching deep

sex was good
but that is
a story

that will keep.
