IN HER HEAD 1916

IN HER HEAD 1916

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

TWO MAIDS IN AN ATTIC ROOM IN 1916 ONE THINKING OF THE YOUNG MASTER OF THE HOUSE HOME ON LEAVE FROM THE FRONT.

"

Polly knows
some thing’s wrong
George is not

his old self
since he came
home on leave

from the Front
she begins
to undress

before bed
in the cold
attic room

with Susie
who lays there
in the bed

shivering
hurry up
get in bed

Susie says
it's freezing
Polly thinks

of George in
his own bed
all alone

normally
she'd have slept
in his bed

making love
when he came
home on leave

she the maid
he the son
of the lord

her master
with George's
head between

her young thighs
his moustache
tickling

her to joy
mounting her
like a horse

riding off
to love fields
come on Pol

Susie says
getting cold
Polly sighs

stands naked
then dresses
in the thick

grey nightgown
climbs into
the old bed

with Susie
not with George's
excepting

making love
hot with him
in her head.
