Sidney's World 1935.

Sidney's World 1935.

A Poem by Terry Collett

From the window
of the locked ward
I can see the locked gates
which bar the road
to the asylum.

Beyond those gates
a saner world resides,
beyond the veal
of that world,
a far deeper insanity
has hold.

It is spring.

Flowers line
the road outside.

I cannot hear
the birds sing.

Behind me reside
those deemed insane
and locked away.

The sounds torment
my ears and eyes.

Here the mind
and soul dies.
