Paul

Paul

A Poem by Terrence McGoldrick

Paul was full of sorrow and sadness
Paul knew this life wasn't for him
Paul was a tower crumbling floor by floor

Paul was empty inside, without an identity
Paul was a gust of wind, blowing through people
Paul was weak, his wind couldn't even pick up a leaf

Paul wanted to end his life
Paul could barely make a whistle
Paul had no more whistles

I really like the repeating pattern of the beginning of each line. The metaphors give a very accurate (from my experiences with mental illness, at least) perspective and image of how Paul had been feeling. Such a shame to have so many lives ending so soon...
