For the Past, Present, and A Hopeful Outlook To The Future

For the Past, Present, and A Hopeful Outlook To The Future

A Poem by Steven Hicks

We met as friends

Playing parts that would become real

Oblivious to a connection

That remains even still

Though miles apart

We still loved with more than most

But because of ignorance

We became each other's ghost

Haunting till the day

You came back again

Loving even then

Wanting my heart to win

You took it once more

And happiness reigned true

Though more problems arose

We became truly through

Time took it's toll

And we both had hell

But here we are again

Willing to tell

Of that same love

We shared long ago

Still holding true

Never to let go

I pray it bonds us stronger

And we make our future's the same

Maybe even one day

You could take my name

Looking to the future

With chins held high

Together we live

Together we die
