What happens when your seemingly perfect life gets turned upside down? For Alana she must fight not only for her life but also to return her life back to perfection.

"

This is the story of Alana Maron, she is a beautiful twenty six year old who is a retired model and just graduated from college with her teaching degree. Alana has long dark brown almost black hair with brown eyes that could capture a crowd. Alana was born in London but moved to America to further her education. Once she finished college she moved to Sacramento, California. Alana's life seemed perfect and to top everything off she is also engaged to her best friend Alan Wood for a little over two years. Alana and Alan met five years ago when she took a trip to Sacramento for Spring Break with some friends; It was by complete accident that they met, when Alana bumped into Alan causing her drink to spill all over Alan, and that is when their love story started. She couldn’t be happier, Alan is an extremely sweet man with blonde hair and blue eyes and is around 6’3. He is a powerful CEO at his company Wood and Co. that he started while he was still in business school. The two thought that their lives couldn’t be any better as they planned and got ready for their wedding in a few short months. Little did they know their perfect lives might not be perfect for much longer.

As I walked to my car from what seemed to be my billionth job interview at a pre school I felt as if the world was against me. I have never had this hard of a time getting a job, but then again it was easy when I was younger because my looks got me many jobs in the modeling world. I got into my car and turned the ignition over to hear the car roar to life. Pulling out of the pre school's parking lot I got onto the road and started on my path to my house that I share with my fiance Alan. I hoped that when I got home I would walk in and see his smiling face to comfort me after my long day of interview after interview. As I thought about my hard day full of interviews a thoughts popped into my mind. ‘Maybe I should go back to modeling.’

It was so much easier to get jobs and it paid well but those days are over. Modeling was fun but it was an unhealthy career because of the physical expectations and the mental damage it caused me. Yes I loved it but because I was always being pressured to lose weight and be skinnier I became underweight and started having body image issues. I struggled for years through seeing myself as fat and gross because of being to I was not being skinny or good enough for companies, It always seemed that once I had finished one job the next would want me to lose weight, this cycle just kept on going nonstop. By the time I was about to graduate high school I was at a very unhealthy weight and trying to overcome my mentality of how I saw myself. I knew I needed help but didn’t want to go away, so instead I stopped modeling and decided to focus on teaching and my love for kids.

Turning my focus back to the road I caught sight of my engagement ring and smiled to myself. My life is pretty much perfect now and I love the life I have now. My loving fiance, my house, my car, and the calming healthy lifestyle I live now. I wouldn’t change a thing in my life; Then what happened next I never expected. I heard multiple car horns honking and screeching tires before all of a sudden I saw a large black shaddow headed towards me at a dangerous speed.  As I looked at the dark object coming towards me I felt the impact of it smashing into me. After that everything was black and still for a while. That was until I heard sirens coming from all directions, they started off quiet and then became louder and louder as they neared. I tried to open my eyes and move to see where the sirens were and to see how close they but I couldn’t feel my body to move or look around and my eyes felt as heavy as the three hundred pound weights at the gym. ‘What was happening?’ was all that was running through my head. Then I heard a man's voice shouting and yelling out to other voices I could not make out.

“Ma’ma? Ma’ma? Can you hear me?” The man’s voice spoke. I tried to hard to fight and open my mouth to tell him I could hear him but nothing happened.

“We have a young woman in the car who is unresponsive!” I heard the voice of the man call out.

“Bring the Jaw of Life so we can get the door off and get her out.” He yelled to those around him. As I tried to listen I felt myself slip into a deeper and deeper slumber that I couldn’t fight off.

“She’s losing a lot of blood we need to get her to the hospital quick!” The same man yelled over the loud noise I guessed was the Jaws of Life. That was the last thing I heard before everything went quiet.

You always hear that when you’re dying you see a light or you see all the memories of your life such as when you get engaged, had your first kiss, and so on but in reality it was peaceful. I felt like I was floating down a river and had no weight to my body. It was one of the best feelings, but I was taken from it too soon. I felt a large shock to my chest and found myself coming back to the world. Then there was another shock and I tried to open my eyes slowly but to no prevail, the only senses I had were my smell and hearing. ‘Where am I?’ was all I could think. Deciding that since I couldn’t open my eyes or talk I would just fall back into the peaceful sleep that sounded so delightful right now.

The whole time that I was in my deep sleep I could hear everything, the nurses coming in and out talking to themselves about my vitals, a doctor who would come and go to update my chart, and one nurse in particular that would whisper into my ear that I was strong and that I could make it through this. The worst part was the hunger I knew was there even though I felt full, I could smell all of the food that went past my room or came into my room. It smelled so good considering I hadn’t eaten in who knows how long. While I laid there I heard the voice that I was in love with talking to a nurse outside.

“Sir I’m sorry you cannot go into this room. Only family is allowed inside.” The nurse politely explained.

“I’m her fiance and her family does not live anywhere near here. I have to see her!” he yelled at the nurse.

“I’m sorry sir I didn’t know go right ahead.” she said with a quieter voice that seemed both scared and full of sorrow. After a few moments of silence I felt a pressure on my hand, then it was getting lifted up, then it settled onto something. I was focusing so hard on trying to wake up or move that it scared me when Allen gently squeezed my hand letting me know he was there. I spent the rest of what seemed like that day just laying there enjoying the fact that I was with the one I love. After that day I don’t know how long I was asleep but I felt something happening to me. I felt like my body was tingling and being woken up, that's when I felt I had the strength to open my eyes only to see the bright lights above me.

“Alana? Alana?” I heard a strange man's voice softly call out over and over but he got louder each time. Moving my eyes towards his voice I found a tall man standing over me with a white coat on. ‘How does he know my name?’ ran through my head as he continued to say my name.

“Alana don’t try to talk or move your head. You have a tube down your throat to help you breath. We will take it out in a few hours when we know you can breath on your own.” Okay so I can move or talk, great. How am I supposed to communicate? As if he read my mind he spoke again;

“We will ask you simple yes or no questions, you will then blink once for yes or twice for no.” He took a deep breath.

“Do you understand?” I instantly blink once.

“Okay. I have explained to your fiance how to communicate like this also.” I once again blinked once. Even though Allen had been here with me he must have left for a little bit because a few minutes later Alan walked in with a bouquet of flowers in a vase and a red heart balloon. He placed them onto the bedside table next to me and leaned over to give my a soft kiss on the forehead.

“How are you baby? Are you ok?” I blinked once. Oh how I wanted to smile at him and give him a hug.  He sat down on the chair on the left side of my bed and took a hold of my hand.

“We will get through this together love. I will never leave your side.” he told me.

“I promise.” he spoke before some nurses came in to check my vitals. One nurse came over to me and started talking, “We will be back in a few minutes to take the tube out. Your vitals are great for what you have been through.” ‘What I’ve been through? What are they talking about?’ I must have had a confused look on my face because Alan took a shaky deep breath rubbing his hands over his face, something he only does when he gets stressed or nervous. That’s when I started worrying, what was going on.

“Hun you were in a bad car accident two days ago. A semi lost control and slammed into your side of the car. You lost consciousness and went into a coma. They also had to amputate your right arm because it was crushed beyond repair.” That’s when I really lost it and the tears started falling. My arm was gone! This isn’t possible. I slowly reached over with my good arm to feel a stump wrapped in an ace bandage sort of dressing where my arm should be. Once I felt the little stump the tears became uncontrollable. Why me?

“I’m sorry babe, you also have a bandage wrapped around your head because you banged your head hard on the steering wheel giving you a few cuts that needed stitches and a concussion.” Wow how could my life change this much in three days? Then there was a knock on the door and a nurse and doctor entered.

“Hello Alana we are here to take the tube out. The removal won’t hurt a bit but once it’s out your voice will sound hoarse and it my hurt to talk and swallow.” I blinked once, I couldn’t wait to get the tube out so I could talk and fully communicate with Alan, the doctors, and nurses. Closing my eyes so I couldn’t see what they were doing I waited to hear the doctor give the okay that it was out.

“Okay Alana the tube is out and you now have the ability to talk and move your head. Just don’t move your head too much so you don’t aggravate the concussion.” The doctor instructed.

“Okay.” I responded but cringed a little at my voice. It didn’t even sound like me, it counded like some young boy going through puberty was talking. My voice was cracking and very very hoarse when I said my first word after the accident. I really hope this doesn’t last for long because I don’t want to get use to this voice, I liked my normal voice. My thoughts were interrupted by snickering coming from the left side of my bed.

“What has you laughing so hard?” I question my giggling fiance with a straight face.

“Your voice is so funny.” he then looked up to see my frown and then put on a poker face.

“I’m sorry, that was not funny. It was very adorable.” Huffing I gently turned my head to my right to act like I was ignoring him. That was until I saw my little stub of an arm. Oh this is what was now my right arm, they had cut it off just above the elbow and had wrapped it up with gauze and put Ace wrap around the gauze. Taking a deep breath I tried not to cry over the loss again. I couldn’t look at the stump anymore so I turned back to the blue eyes I loved, only to see them with a sympathetic look in them.

“I’m sorry that this happened to you but I still love you and think you are the most beautiful woman in the world. I also know you will look perfect when you walk down the aisle to me.” He stated with a smile on his lips. When he said that I knew that I had found a keeper.

I spent four more days in the hospital recovering and having test done to make sure I was healthy enough to go home. After many vials of blood, CT scans of my head, getting the IV taken out of my hand, and some physical therapy to help me get use to my arm and build up some strength in my arm and I was finally ready to go home. Alan had brought me some clean clothes and was sitting next to me waiting and entertaining me while we waiting for the doctor to come back in with the paperwork.

The next twenty minutes were filled with laughs and talk of the wedding. Then a thought popped into my mind, my dress! How was my dress going to look with my new arm? To help get the thoughts out of my head I turned back to Allen and focused on what he was saying until a knock was heard from the door. Standing in the door was the doctor and a single nurse who had papers in her hands. Seeing the two I felt a smile spread across my face, this was it.

“Okay Alana it’s time. Just sign these papers and you are free to go home.” he shook my hand and walked out with a smile. My attention then turned to the nurse who handed me all the papers and a pen. She quickly pointed out the places I needed to sign and asked me standard questions about how I was feeling and explained how to take care of the stitches in my head and arm. Taking the pen into my left hand I struggled to sign the papers on the small lines, this was going to be hard. Nodding I signed the last line with a struggle and handed all the papers back to her.

“I’m glad you are okay. I believe you are ready to go home.” She says with an excited smile.

“I will leave and you can change in the bathroom.” She tells me while standing in the doorway with her hand on the door handle. With that I got up and hurriedly went to the bathroom to change. When I came out I saw Alan standing with my bag in his hand along with the balloon and flowers he had gotten me. With one final look around the room we walked out and to the elevator to go home.

*A three months later*

It was finally the day of the wedding and I was more than ready for this. After all that Alan and I have been thought with the accident I knew he was the one for me. He had gone to all of the doctors appointments with me and held my hand through everything. He had even learned how to help me do my hair since I cannot do it with one hand. I had finally accepted the fact that I will need help with something and that having one arm isn’t so bad. My right arm now looked like a stump with a scar but no stitches or protective wrap on it.

As I got my hair and makeup done I couldn’t help but reminisce on the journey my soon to be husband and I have been through from the time we met to right here right now as we got ready to say our vows and become husband and wife. Only two more hours until I would be Mrs. Wood and a new chapter of my life would start. It seemed that while my life has flaws it is still perfect to me. I wouldn’t want to change anything because the accident had helped Alan and I grow stronger.

Getting up from the hair and makeup chair it was time to get into my dress and then take a few bridal party pictures then the ceremony. I took my time to put on my dress so I don’t get anything on the gorgeous dress, it was a mermaid style dress with a sweetheart neckline that had jewels that went all down the body and started to dissolve when it got to the bottom leaving a few of the crystals to be in the tuell at the bottom, it also had a long train that flowed perfectly behind me to make that dress look like it was fit for a princess. Pulling it up I held it in place so that my mother, who had flown into town along with my father, could tie up the corset back. Once the dress was on and tightened up it was time to put the minor details like jewelry, heels, and getting the flowers so we can take some pictures.

The pictures and putting my dress on took up most of the time that was left before the ceremony time. After the pictures were done we carefully walked to the limo that waited for us so that my dress didn’t get dirty or get any grass stains. Loading into the limo everyone started chatting excitedly while I sat there with nerves and excitement coursing through my veins like a drug. I was so focused on my emotions that I didn’t even notice that we were at the large church where I was to be married at. Feeling the car stop I looked out and took a deep breath seeing my father walk towards me in his tux. He opened the door and stuck his hand out to help me out of the car. I smiled up at him knowing he was about to walk me down the aisle and give me away to my best friend. He lead me up the stairs and into a small room where we would be waiting for our cue to enter.

I saw all of my bridesmaids and maid of honor lined up with the groomsmen and felt butterflies knowing that there was only a short time until I would see Alan. One by one the couples entered the church sanctuary. As the last couple walked through the door it was finally my turn; I heard my music start and the doors were opened. As they opened I saw all of the guest stand up and look back at me. Looking through the crowd I tried to keep my calm and not freak out at the number of people looking at me. I walked down the aisle smiling at the many guest. Two steps until I would be handed off and that's when it hit me. This would be the last time I shared with my father as his little girl with the same last name. One step, my father reached for Alan and gave him a hug and whispered something in his ear. He then took my hand and placed it in Alan's giving me a peck on the cheek. He then walked away and went to join my mother and soon-to-be-in-laws in the pew grabbing her hand with a smile on his face.

“Ready?” I heard a quiet voice whisper to me. Looking over I couldn’t say anything so I simply nodded my head and let him lead me up the church's stage steps to the pastor.

“Please be seated.” The pastor announced as he got ready to start the ceremony. The ceremony went on and I couldn’t help but stare at Alan to try and keep my calm, I focused back in when it was time for the unity candle to be lit by our parents and ourselves. Once we lit the candle it was finally the end and the time had come that we would finally be husband and wife.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife.” The pastor announced

“You may kiss your beautiful wife Alan.” With no hesitation Alan went in for the kiss, it seemed to last forever but I didn’t have a care in the world we were the only ones in the world. Breaking the kiss I smiled up at my new husband, I hadn’t noticed that he had dipped me backwards during the kiss. Standing up we stood there looking at each other with wide grins on our faces.

“Ladies and Gentlemen I proudly present Mr. and Mrs. Wood!” The pastor exclaimed while everyone clapped. To my surprise Alan literally swept me off my feet and carried me down the aisle and out the door to the car that was waiting. After today's events I knew that my life was back to being, by my own definition, perfect. As Allen carried me back down the aisle I couldn’t help but laugh and smile to the people sitting in the pews. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect life than what I have. Thinking that Allen would put my down outside I was surprised when he took me straight to the waiting limo that would take us to the reception. When he finally set me onto my feet we were right in front of the open limo door. Sliding into the seat Allen helped me get my dress fully in the car before he got in. The ride was full of smiles and talk of how happy we were now that we could call each other husband and wife. When the car pulled up to the venue where the reception would be I was in a fit of laughter thanks for Alan telling me a stupid joke.

“Shall we go celebrate?” he asked with a wide smile opening the door and offering me his hand once he was out.

“Let’s do this hubby!” I cheered when I was stood on the sidewalk. Connecting hands once again we walked to the doors that had everyone behind them waiting for us. The bridal party was all lined up to be announced into the party, we awaited our turn trying to figure out how we were going enter when we are called. As we were still trying to figure it out it was our turn, I was shocked when I saw Alan sweep me off my feet once again! Throwing my head back in laughter I went along with it and waved to the people around.

“Can the couple please make their way to the dance floor for their first dance?” the DJ announced as Alan and I started towards the dance floor. Once there the familiar slow tune started as my new husband wrapped his arms around my waist and we started swaying back and forth to the music. I knew everyone was looking at us as we danced but I couldn’t take my eyes off of the man in front of me and nothing could take this smile off of my face tonight. Time seemed to stand still as we danced, I never knew I could be this happy. I was pulled from my thoughts as I felt myself getting dipped meaning that the dance was ending. Coming back to reality I looked back up to see those beautiful eyes I loved. After a minute of being held I was brought back up onto my feet, once I was stood up I looked around at everyone who was standing on their feet clapping for us. Alan took my hand and lead us to the wedding party table.

The night flew by, it was full of dancing and laughter from every guest. I didn’t want to leave but my feet were starting to kill me. Alan and I made our way around to the guest that were at the tables to say our thank yous and goodbyes, we did so hand in hand and smiles on our faces. Once the final goodbye said we slipped out the door we entered through and walked to the waiting limo. I wasn’t sure where we were going yet because Alan wanted to make it a surprise. The ride was quiet, a little too quiet but it was a comfortable quiet. One of those times where you reflect on events, I was zoning out when I felt a hand on my knee helping me focus. I looked over to see a face I would never get sick of smiling at me. I turned my body towards him looking him in the eye.

“So do I get to know where we are going yet? I mean it’s not nice to keep secrets from your wife.” I teased.

“Nope, and it’s not a secret it’s a surprise.” He said poking the end of my nose while he laughs at the look of pure annoyance on my face. I guess I was acting like a child by crossing my arms over my chest because the next words from Alan.

“I see I married a toddler instead of a beautiful woman who knows how to have fun.” he once again teased. My jaw must have dropped to the floor because I then heard the laugh I loved.

“You’re mean.” I pouted once again. If he was going to say I was acting childish then I would. I turned away crossing my arms once again. I tried not to break character but I was so happy that I was finally Mrs. Wood that my pout soon turned into a smile. I started to get bored so I leaned forward and turned on the radio, when I had finally settled on a station I rested back and leaned my head on the hard shoulder next to me. I could not have been happier. As I sat there waiting to reach our destination I felt my eyes start to get heavier and heavier until I had no more power left to keep my eyes open. I gave in and closed my eyes falling asleep in the car.

It seemed like I was asleep for a while but when I woke up I notice I was no longer in the car. Rubbing my eyes carefully so I didn’t get the makeup on my face all over. Once the sleep was rubbed out of my eyes I looked around to see I was in a hotel room in a tee shirt and sweat pants. I don’t even remember changing into these. Sitting up and shaking my head I go with the assumption that Alan must have carried my up to the room and helped me change out of my dress and into these clothes. I see my phone on the bedside table and check the time, it was eight am and Alan was no place to be seen. I shot him a text before I got up to take my makeup off and take my hair out of its messy updo from yesterday. As I wrestled with trying to take my hair out which was hard with one hand. I finally gave up and got into the shower hoping it would make it easier to take out.

I lost track of time in the shower because I heard a knock on the bathroom door and Alan's voice making sure I was okay. WIth a simple response I rinsed the conditioner out of my hair I shut the water off and got out of the shower. The steam had fogged up the mirror making it look like the fog on a humid summers morning. I took a towel and wiped away the precipitation and started brushing my hair. As I brushed my hair I felt the skin on my wrinkly fingers for the first time, I must have been in there for a while. Smiling and continuing to get ready for the day I heard a knock at the door. I made sure the towel around me was wrapped tightly and opened the door to see my sweaty husband standing there.

“How was the workout?” I asked after I spit the toothpaste out of my mouth.

“Good.” He replied starting the water for a shower. I took that as my cue to leave and get dressed. It was then I remembered I didn’t know what we were doing so I turned back around on my heels.

“Oh by the way, what are we doing today? Also where are we?” I asked with my head leaning against the door frame.

“We are going to be boarding a plane in a couple hours, and we’re in Los Angeles.” He replied and he started getting ready for his shower. I nodded and walked to my suitcase to put on a pair of shorts and a tank top with a light sweatshirt over it. After getting dressed I put a very light amount of makeup on to cover my dark circles from being exhausted due to the wedding and the reception last night. As I finished my makeup Alan appeared out of the bathroom in some shorts with a towel in his hand to dry his hair.

“You’re so lucky you don’t have to wear makeup or try to look handsome.” I teased.

“Well you don’t need the makeup or even need to try to be beautiful.” He told me causing me to feel a blush rise up my neck to my cheeks. I turned around to look at him and found him right behind me. I smiled up to him and stood on my tippy toes to give mis lips a kiss. I smiled into the kiss knowing that we were finally husband and wife not just boyfriend or girlfriend. These lips were mine forever, and I absolutely love this. The kiss ended way too soon for my liking but I knew we needed to check out of our room and get to LAX. I quickly put my clothes I changed out of into my suitcase and gathered everything from the bathroom to pack away also. I made sure that nothing would spill in the suitcases and with a final nod I zipped my suitcase up.

“Alan do you have everything packed?” I asked only to receive silence. I turned around to find him sitting on the bed with his eyes glued to his phone. I walked over to the bed and cuddled up into his side trying to get his attention, but to no avail. Next I tried giving his cheek a peck, still didn’t work. I finally gave up and waved my hand in front of his face, with that his head snapped in my direction.

“Hmm?” he softly hummed.

“I asked if you had everything packed into your suitcase.” I restated myself.

“Oh yeah.” He said looking at me then turning his attention back to the phone. I got up and checked the hotel room once again to make sure everything was picked up. See as it was I walked to Alan's suitcase and zipped it up. I was about to ask him to put the luggage onto the cart but her was already up putting mine on it and waiting for me to finish zipping his. He walked over and lifted the luggage effortlessly onto the cart. I followed behind him as he opened the door and started down the hallway towards the elevator. Reaching the elevator we stood hand in hand waiting for it to arrive. When it finally arrived we loaded into the small space and hit the lobby button.

After checking out at the front desk we got a taxi to take us and our bags over to the airport. I was so excited to find out where we were going that I couldn’t sit still, my knee was constantly bouncing. As the taxi pulled into the parking lot of the airport I saw all of the cars and people buzzing around. The car pulled up in the loading zone letting us get out and get our bags. Once we had everything Alan payed the man we owed. With one last thank you we walked through the airports doors and went on the search for our terminal. It was slightly hard because of all the people rushing around trying to find their own terminals and make sure they didn’t miss their own planes. After what felt like forever we found our area just as they called to board the plane. I looked up at Alan who had his arm draped over my shoulders, a smile on his face as he looked back at me. As we approached the lady who would be taking the tickets I struggled to get mine out and keep a hold of my suitcase to continue on. We finally got onto the plane and found our seats for the flight. Hopefully this flight won’t be too bad and short.

After that flight I am happy to be on the ground, that was the worst flight I have ever been on. The start of the trip was fine until a few hours in and over the ocean we encountered strong winds causing bad turbulence. It was the second scariest thing I have ever experienced in my life. The whole time the plane was shaking I had a death grip on Alan's hand trying to stay calm but that was impossible when everything around you is shaking. Once we got a little farther past the strong winds the flight was okay again but I couldn’t get myself to calm back down. All I could think about was the accident months ago while we were being shaken in the plane. I eventually leaned my head on Alan and fell asleep for the remainder of our time in the sky. I woke up to the sound of the Pilot's voice telling us to buckle up and prepare for landing.

Getting off of the plane was very stress relieving for me. I let out a breath I didn’t know I had been holding in as I stepped into the airport. I quickly looked around to find clues as to where we were to get my mind off of the scary experience we just went through. In my search for clues I happily found one. Alan had planned our honeymoon in Australia! I was so excited because I had always wanted to visit here. I know Alan noticed my excitement because I heard a small laugh leave his mouth.

“Surprise!” He says wrapping me up in a hug.

“Oh my gosh! I’ve always wanted to visit Australia! How long are we staying?” I ask while hugging back practically shouting in his ear.

“A couple weeks. Is that okay?” Alan asks as he pulls back and holds me at arm's length so he can see my reaction.

“Is that okay?” I laugh “Just standing here in this country is okay!” I say as I once again hug my husband. Holy wow I cannot believe I’m here. I pull back from the hug and take his hand leading him to baggage claim so we can get our bags and go. Our bags seemed to know we were there because right as we walked up they appeared. Walking outside we hailed down a cab to take us to the hotel we would be staying at during the vacation. The cab ride was fairly short but when we reached the hotel my jaw dropped, it was amazingly huge! I got out of the car and just looked up trying to see the top of the seemingly endless building.

“You okay?” Alan asked me when he walked up next to me looking up also.

“Uh yeah, this place is amazing!” I say just barely above a whisper. With that I made my way inside the lobby only to be amazed yet again. There was a huge crystal chandelier hanging from the gold ceiling that had a mural of heaven on it. I was so impressed that I just froze in my spot not caring if I was in the middle of the floor. While I was standing there taking everything in Alan came back to me with the room key and the luggage cart. I decided I had taken enough in and walked to the elevator and wait granting me more time to look around. The ding pulled my attention back to leaving the lobby, as we stepped into the elevator the first thing I noticed was the soft classical music playing. I was so intent with the music playing I didn’t notice what floor was pressed, It didn’t take long for us to finally reach our floor and that was when I notice that we were on the top floor. As we walked through the hall I watched every room number go by until I ran into Alan because I wasn’t paying attention.

“You ready to see the room? I’m assuming you’ll love it since you were infatuated with the lobby.” Alan chuckled.

“Yeah I’m ready.” I say while nodding my head impatiently. With that the room key was put into the lock and the pitch black room was revealed to me. I walked in blindly looking for the light switch; When I finally found the light switch and got the lights turned on my jaw once again dropped and my eyes grew wide. The room was amazing! It had a floor to ceiling window and a large white bed that look super comfy. After the initial shock of how amazing the room was I walked over to the window to look at the view it gave. When looking out it you could see the ocean for miles and miles, and when looking the other way the top of the city was clearly visible. I was in such awe I just sat down on the ground looking out the huge window. I somehow blocked everything out for so long I didn’t really notice the light changing outside.

My attention was diverted from the view when my stomach notified me that I needed to be fed. I stood up and turned to look over the room in hopes to find my husband, only to find him fast asleep on the bed. I walked over and sat next to his peaceful body, I felt bad but I gently shook him awake.

“Wanna go get some dinner or call room service?” I asked while he rubbed his eyes.

“Sure let’s call room service because I don’t feel like leaving this room.” he responded and then stretched out his arms with a yawn. I got up from my spot and went on a search for the book that contained the menu. I had no luck with finding the menu until I looked in the last spot I could think of looking. Once I found it I made my way back to the bed sitting down and resting back against the headboard. There were so many options but when my eyes landed on my favorite food I knew what I was getting. I handed the open binder to Alan who was relaxing next to me.

“What are you getting?” he asked while searching through the list of foods.

“Mac N Cheese.” I giggle.

“Of course you would be getting the Mac N Cheese.” he teased knowing it was my favorite and practically the only thing I ate. It took him a little to decide but when he finally did I picked up the phone and dialed room services number and ordered. As we waited for the knock on the door that would indicate our food was here we watched tv. Since we were in a different country it was hard to find a show that we knew what it was. In the end we ended up watching Disney Channel. As we were laughing at the stupid show the anticipated knock came. With a loud sigh Alan got up and opened the door to let the gentleman in. A shorter older man walked in pushing a cart full of food and a couple drinks. Alan quickly tipped him and thanked him for bringing our food. Once the man was gone I was up and off the bed for my food in an instant. I grabbed my Mac N Cheese and headed for the small dinner table that was in the room. I was so hungry as soon as I sat down I was digging in, and it was delicious! After dinner the time change really hit me and I was out like a light when my head hit the pillow. All I could think about in my dreams were the possible adventours the next few weeks held.

The few weeks in parades flew by because of the amount of fun we were having. It was time to go home and I was dreading it. Not only was I nervous for the flight home but I just didn’t want to leave and go back to the real world. As I finished packing everything but our outfits of the day and bathroom essentials I went over to my favorite part of the room for one more gaze out to look at the picture perfect view. I sat down once again trying to soak everything in even though I’ve looked out this window so many times in the time we have been here. As I sat there I absentmindedly played with the wedding ring on my finger. Flashbacks for the wedding and everything in my life came flooding back to me, with everything on my mind a single thought cleared them all away.

‘What if we moved here and lived here?’ It was a silly thought because both of our lives are back in California but I wouldn’t mind moving here for the rest of my life. As I thought I heard the room door open and footsteps come in. I snapped my head around to find Alan just coming back from his morning workout. I stood up and decided I should get changed into my outfit of the day instead of traveling home in my pjs. Once I was dressed I sat down and watched tv for a little bit until I knew it was time that I had to get up and brush my hair and teeth. I walked to the bathroom reaching for the door handle only to be greeted by my husband opening the door scaring me.

“Oops.” He laughed giving me a hug to help calm me down.

“Your clothes are on the bed.” I told him once I had slowed my heartrate down. He simply nodded and walked past me but not before pressing a kiss into my hair causing a smile to break onto my face. I walked in and started getting ready by throwing my hair long hair up into a messy bun so it wouldn’t get in the way of me brushing my teeth. Once my gross morning breath was gone it was time to try and tame this beast that I call my hair. I carefully ran my brush through it and then brushed it into a low ponytail. When I exited the bathroom I found Alan sitting where I was laughing like a little kid at the kiddie show that was on the screen. It was such a cute side that only I get to see because he is always in business mode when at work. As he watched his eyes would grow wide when a good part came on, I walked over and sat down next to him watching along.

“I guess we have to leave paradise.” Alan broke from his silence and looked over at me with wide sad eyes.

“It was fun while it lasted.” I said with a sigh. With that I got up reaching my hand out for him to take. With a grateful smile he accepted my hand and stood up, once we were stood up Alan started to put all of the bags on the luggage cart. Once all of the bags were loaded and I checked the room one more time to make sure we had everything, we were ready to head home. We were rolling the cart down the hall when I had a brilliant idea. I reached out and wrapped my arm around Alans to get his attention.

“Oh boy you have that face on.” He said rolling his eyes.

“I have an idea!” I stated with a big smile.

“And that is...” he trailed off his sass.

“I wanna ride on the cart.” I said with a mischievous grin on my face as I sat down.

“Okay. Here we go.” Alan said before he took off in a sprint down the hallway. I was laughing uncontrollably while riding. As we went down the hall my smile was permanently on my face and my hair was flying all over the place from the speed.

“Okay speed demond we are about to crash into the elevator!” I shouted trying to make sure he could hear me over his heavy breathing. Alan finally slowed his speed by digging his heels into the carpet. The ride was fun while it lasted; I was so happy because with Alan by my side we can turn anything into a fun adventure, even just a simple thing as walking or riding in my case can turn into fun. I stayed sat on the cart until the elevator came and I had to get up so the people inside didn’t think I was too crazy. As we pushed the cart inside and stood there waiting for the elevator to reach the lobby. Once we reached the lobby I stood and looked around one last time as Alan checked us out. I was so satisfied standing there looking around that it scared me when Alan put his arm around me.

“You ready?” He asked while kissing the top of my head.

“Yeah.” I simply replied while letting out a sad sigh. With that we walked out of the hotel to the waiting cab and put all of our stuff in the trunk of the car. After we closed the trunk and got in we told the driver where we were going and headed to the dreaded airport. As we pulled up to the drop off area we paid the driver for his help and got out to get our bags out of the trunk. When we had everything we headed into the building to check in and get on our flight home.

This trip was a perfect way to start the new chapter of our life together. Life was once again seemingly perfect and I couldn’t wait to see what this life held for the two of us together. Even though this life will never be perfect but as long as we have each other and have love life can be pretty close.
