The Midnight Ride of Darkness

The Midnight Ride of Darkness

A Poem by Matthew

Hold your children close and weep in the night, for the wolves howl in the high forests and the shadows thirst for the souls of mortals in the darkness deeper than darkness. The fires of men's souls have gone out, the steel in the hearts of women has shattered and they all lie but broken bodies scattered in the wake of Death. For She rides from one horizon to the other, reducing heroes to terror and gods to slav'ry, laying low the sun and banishing from the heavens even the most defiant of stars who would dare bring light into the darkness She wears as a crown of Her dread glory. Hel has risen, Nyx has conquered, and in every creation the light is consumed and crushed eternal. Weep, ye mortals, for your prayers are in vain and your love as powerless as your weapons of metal; Death has ridden to lay waste, and all life is extinguished in Her darkness.
