Save Yourself

Save Yourself

A Poem by t.m.

I spend my time trying to stop others
from being like me.
I tell them the things people tell me,
About how I want them to live
And breathe and begging them
Please.

Please don't.

You're important.

They say the same things that I do,
No, I don't think so.

They tell me that their chest hurts
A barely-beating heart
That got broken too many times.

I tell them that love shouldn't feel like that,
But who am I to say this
When I let my heart break on a daily basis.

I tell them they have worth
And I know they won't believe me
But if people could see what others see
They'd know the truth in my words.

I say all of these things
To stop them from being like me.
But even on this side
I know when I'm on the other,
I will never believe.
