The Park

The Park

A Poem by Victoria Harlequin
"

Total improv!! I made this up on the spot just so I could post something because I haven't posted in A WHILE. So if you don't like it, well okay. I don't either

"

I see the leaves rustle and settle

My eyes wandering up at the night sky

Then back down to the green blanket that my feet are planted on

A quiet laugh passes through my ears and my eyes dart around

Only to see a young man and woman leaning against an old tree

I couldn't quite tell if they were a couple or not

By the way that the girl would lean her head away from him when he said something

Or when he shifted slightly from side to side, and she would suppress a chuckle

I wasn't too far sitting across from them on a cold rusted bench

It seemed to be a common "school" crush to me

You know how it goes...

The boy was completely in love with her, but she was too ignorant to notice

And he would devote his every waking moment to her

Yet she would still only come to him as a friend in help

I decided to ignore the two now; sometimes these situations were so predictable

I looked over at the large body of water in front of me

Barely moving, and still to me it was so inviting

It's surprising how amazing something so dull and ordinary could hold my interest

It was a blank sheet that ran on endlessly, but it was beautiful to me

An image of my mother flashed in my eyes, and I let out a small breath

That's what it was...it was like admiring the beauty of a mother

It's everywhere, and nothing special in a world that is so big

But when you've known it for so long and grew up seeing it

There's nothing that compares to it

Because to that one person, may it be the ocean or the sun or anything

It is irreplaceable and unique like a mother

I heard scattering and looked back to the boy and girl almost immediately

Waking up from my imagination

They were running after each other and screaming like children

Grabbing at arms and legs, rolling around then falling

Something inside of me bursted and I began laughing myself

And I must assume they heard me because they stopped and stared at me

My cheeks turned a bright red, luckily it was dark outside

But I turned my head away all the same

I sat on the bench and felt fatigued moments later

The young boy and girl were sauntering away...

My estimation was that it was around twelve in the morning, not very late at all

A yawn escaped my mouth, so I stretched my arms

Lied down on the bench

Then I picked up the bag I'd been using lately from underneath the bench

Covering it over myself, and I closed my eyes

One little tear escaped my eye before I fell asleep dreaming of my home

Ignore grammar problems, some of it doesn't make sense but that's improv for me...

Didn't expect the ending a little surprising. Very nicely done it was great to read feel sorry for the person in the poem but thats reality and it seems he realizes that.
