MAMA

MAMA

A Poem by Vanessa van Gersie

When I would wake up at night
Mama would tell me just the things to take me back to sleep
Cover and hide me from the fright
That keeps tormenting and hunting my young mind
I would toss and turn alright
But there was calm, there was joy
Knowing that she'll be by side
sometimes my monsters won
putting holes in a heart that was already torn
And most times my mama won
breaking the gates to walls that were already built inside, inside.

it's crazy the things we've been through
it's crazy how far we've come
How far we've come.
