Danger line

Danger line

A Poem by Vanessa van Gersie

In the papers I read
Of countless starving to death
Pictures in the center spread
Makes me wonder if we're losing our head
Too many hungry mouths to feed
Just because of our greed
Too much bloodshed
Just for a loaf of bread

We're hanging on a danger line

On the radio
I heard rumours of war
The headlines makes me wonder
What all the fighting is for
I hear voices of angry people protesting
And the shouts of a loud minority resisting

We're hanging on a danger line

On the t.v I saw
The sight of innocent blood running down the street
It is appalling and more
To see on their faces despair and defeat

BRIDGE
Breaking News
It's time to rise above our condition
Breaking News
it's time to renew our situation

This is a profound poem which explores the naked truth about the world – reminding us of the questions that ring in our heads that we sometimes disregard without realizing. The poem is like news reporting all these earthly misfortunes, but unlike other news broadcasts on tv, the reader is unable, whilst perusing this piece, to ignore the transmitted message, as the written idea lingers in our minds just long enough for us to care. Reading can be more personal, and in the case of poems unique and heartfelt, unlike the derivative tv broadcasts reviving the same crisis unceasingly until we lack care.

p.s.

I love the poem.
