Spider Blood

Spider Blood

A Poem by TheUnrulyWriter

So often you say things

With so little meaning

They mean many things

I hardly can speak with you

Let alone listen

In fear of spidery

Webs on your lips

I don’t know if you mean it

But I’ve been bitten before

And still harbour a scar

From the juice of our bloods

Very well done! I love the idea & the execution of this message. This situation is very relatable & you described it with originality. The older I get, the more people seem to be like these spiders . . . and I've always hated spiders. The opening was particularly arresting becuz of all the people who keep talking when they have little to say.

Holy moly. The images that this conjures. You picked the perfect image to pair with the terrors of broken trust, revisiting lost love - I don't think there is a more intrepid, fear invoking, creepy creature to carry these feelings forth. And the power in the image of the splat of spider blood as the "once bitten, twice shy" metaphor would have me most decided thinking five or six times (at least) before ever venturing near those lips or love again.

You absolutely nailed this in subject matter. Your choice of the spider is so powerful, the sticky web on lips hiding intent meaning.
