And Then I Closed the Door

And Then I Closed the Door

A Poem by Gavin S.
"

Wrote this long time back.

"

When I was young, I could not breathe

I choked on dry air like sand in my lungs

And deep in night, I could not sleep

And my mother watched me wade in terror

A fish that lurked beneath the water

Only coming to view as it rises

Then sinking again

Repeatedly, like a clock

Tick, down

Tock, up

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick

The depths of that void,

Water that reached into the heart of the world

Lurking behind her eyes

The light came on and a forest burned

I sat by a river under overcast skies

A leaf fell and landed in a bed

I closed my hands

And then I closed the door

I like the idea of the fish being viewed as a clock, well that's the way I see this anyway.
Loved the way this is placed together, it's very cleverly written.
