Unidentified Flying Outsider

Unidentified Flying Outsider

A Poem by ThoughtsIBought

The difference between office space and outer space
Is a daydream a million miles away
Slipping into an awkward shift work skin

To cope with the local logistics

Left feeling appropriately alienated

I guess perspective’s tricky when you’re extra
being forced to be terrestrial
The view of the stars is beautiful

But the view from the stars is complete

and in some sweet other world
My best self has chest burst out
What if I left Earth now?
Never question how

I’ll be number one with a rocket

Not staring off
Lifting off
Against this Asmiov existence

I guess I’m just more Trek than Wars
and I’ve given up fighting the urge to explore
I’d rather be lost in space
Than found out of place
The little green other
Living in the starry nights

Once again, you've got me. Never a cell, no TV, & I've never seen any Trek or Wars flicks. I'm so unplugged, I want to invite this narrator to my wilderness cabin so I can show off how I've learned to go cosmic without breaking out of the stratosphere. Many times I think of my life as being exactly what you're describing, I'm so fully removed from all the madness. I've only seen 2 face masks (in person) EVER! I find myself writing about magic carpet ride tinted odysseys all the time. Your poem only makes me want to imagine my next escape (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
