LITTLE GIRL

LITTLE GIRL

A Poem by mangoma
"

this poem is about all the young girls who are married off to older men while they are still in their prime.

"

Little girl you have grown so much

Little girl your life just sprung

Your parents see their rose blooming

Intyantyambo abanebhongo ngayo

Just a few steps outside your comfort

The world has seen a woman

Ukuba ubusazi

This cruel world linamarhamncwa namagongqongqo

This world isn’t at all like the fairy tales u were once told

Old customs come out to play

You have dreams but they are tarnished

Next thing you’re married

Kodwa azikaqhami nepesika

Mendo ni nalo, kodwa usafinyela esidleleni

Marriage you had no plans off

Your peers are still playing hopscotch nomgusha

Abanye badlala undize, wena ujikajikana nendzingo zomzi

Your friends are embracing their teens

Wena wenzela umazala Iti

Your friends have plans for their education and future

It’s so unfair because u have to plan for your child’s future

Life hits hard

You have to deal with adultery

He cheats n he beats

You accept and ignore the pain

He repeats over and over...

When you had enough you head home.....

The home you know that's where love is....

Your parents chase you back n you are told...

“ingcwaba lentombi lisemzini"...
