WILD GENES GET IN THE WAY

WILD GENES GET IN THE WAY

A Poem by DIVYA
"

A shoutout to all the lovely women who won't 'be nice'

"

WILD GENES GET IN THE WAY

she can be so good, she can be so nice,

she can be all things, sugar n spice

she can be the ray, to sparkle your day

but the wild genes get in the way

she can be so pretty, she can be polite

she can be a pearl, all showy ‘n white

she can be a pink, flowery vase on display

but the wild genes get in the way

she can be so quiet, she can be restrained

she can be a vial, with its venom contained

she can be a shadow, all placid ‘n grey

but the wild genes get in the way

she can be so discreet, she can be docile

she can be a  stick of candy-coated bile

she can have only sticky-sweet things to say

but the wild genes get in the way

she can be so pliant, she can be so tame

she can be a tempered ‘n diluted flame

she can be a siren, on your whims to sway

but the wild genes get in the way

And don't I know it! So many times have I been attacked by those wild genes!

Agreeing with Wordman, your poem is very lyrical and flows with a tail swishing rhythm and accompanying accurate rhyme. It seems all women must have a bit of naughty kitty in them; they can be extremely adorable and prone to stroking but godforbid we men upset the tuna cart! That is when the claws come out and the wild side comes to the fore. At such times even the most regal of ladies adopts the streetfighting ways of the alley cat.

This is a very humorous little write that, for all its light hearted intention, does illustrate a much deeper metaphor on women and their relations with men. I love the picture and the avatar that accompanies the poem. There is no getting away from cats, it seems. They are taking over the world.

A fun piece of writing. Nicely written. 🌷🌷

MY FAVORITE PHRASE OF THE WEEK: "candy-coated bile" . . . This poem literally SEETHES! And I love it. I'm 63 and I've only recently hit the wall, when it comes to having enuf of this bullshit! I love the way your poem starts out a little prissy & proper, but as you go on, the expressions stay tightly woven, but the word choices reveal a wilder & wilder spirit, a more imminent breaking out of the cage. It's so subtle, I envy you making this dramatic point in such a buttoned-up way. The style of writing suits the material perfectly (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Good morning Divya.
In my world a woman should never ever fully clip her wings, curb her inner devil to be accepted, she should remain as is and be loved for it.
Hope you are well :)

Thank you for lighting up this page with your words of appreciation dear Fran...
women certainly can be complex with different sides to them. wonderful flow and the repetition of that line reinforces the observations of each stanza. good flow - grabbed attention and held it all the way through. very thorough, descriptive and true. i happen to love cats - great, relevant analogy ... :)

Thank you for such kind appreciation, Pete!
This could be about the nature of cats. It could also be about the nature of a woman (or a man if you switch the pronouns). Most of us want to be calm, wise, joyful, hopeful creators of peace -- most of us also want to loose the bonds of "civilized" behavior and let the wild in us reign free too. I would say, we humans need room to be unbridled and wild sometimes.

Delightful write! My favorite line is "she can be a stick of candy-coated bile"! Brilliant! Love the rhythm and rhyme of this one. Yes, we all have wild genes and they do get a bit sticky at times. Divya, this one is just wonderful! Lydi***

Thank you so much for appreciating this poem, dear Lydi...it’s wonderful to see you.
A clever, charming and well-rhymed piece.
Could be, sometimes, those "wild genes" motivate more than they get in the way.
Nicely done, D!

Thank you Jimmy, they definitely seem to liven up things :)
This sounds like an old school nursery rhyme:) give me the bile and the vile they just make me smile, I don't like fake candy only sincerity is handy, to love what is true is the thing to do, false projections aren't real affections leaving Bad Bunny Blue, A heart that is strong is the thing that I long... anything less well just simply, won't do!:) awesomeness in these lines Divvy!!!! stay wild

A light hearted fun read with much musicality in your chosen lines. Almost song like. Without a doubt of all the women I know, they all have a wild gene lurking in the background. It may not surface often, but when it does, you know it. Enjoyed this enormously DIVYA. You have a very versatile pen.

Wild women aren't good wife material, and unfortunately almost all of them have that wild bug up their a*s these days. Multiple sexual partners and stuff like that makes them something for me to avoid. I'm a bachelor and I'll probably stay that way. No, wait, no I'm not. But I don't need a woman in my life so that's OK. At least, not in the romantic/marriage sense, I don't.

One thing I might change is that docile and bile don't rhyme. Something like "she can be full of feminine wile." Or something like that. Just my thoughts.
