Depression

Depression

A Poem by L.E.Osborne
"

A poem I wrote 2 years ago when I was going through some things. Life is better now but I quite like this one all the same.

"
I think I've got depression
she follows me around
he hides behind the curtains
waits to kick me when I'm down.

My shirt says I'm with anxiety
she lives within my gut
he whispers in my brain holes
that I'm a worthless s**t.

My heart says that I'm lifeless
she rarely beats all day
he stays in morbid silence
but I've got so much to say.

They trap me up here with them
so I don't get to feel
they'll say this worlds not for me
they'll never let me heal.

The use of gender identities is interesting, giving depression a 'human' form. A thought provoking, poignant ending revealing the power of forces at work within the poem.

Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking the time to read! x
well done! anxiety, fear and depression all hand in hand to lock us up tight .. enemies #1 .. love the everyday language of this poem .. drives it home even more as depression can and does touch most everyone at some level .. when it cripples it can be devastating :( "he whispers in my brain holes" killer line says i! absolutely brutal! brilliant making the antagonist both make and female .. have never seen that before .. not together in one poem .. just super creative and brilliant my new friend .. wishing you the best of the day! be well and keep safe!

Hello, L! :)
I really like this one, the way you've portrayed the ailments. The rhythm is great too, except for line five is a bit long and tripped me up.
