"Magically Imagined"

"Magically Imagined"

A Story by Tommy

Hypnotized by his carving hands, his daughter watched as he transformed the piece of knotty pine into an image.

"Daddy you have magic in your hands," she giggling with delight.

"Oh but you've seen nothing yet my dear, wait until you make her come to life."

Each day his angel watched him whittle bits away, until finally he had transformed a log into a lovely doll. She so loved watching her father work. "Take her to your mother, and ask if she will make a blue and white checkered dress, paired with ruby shoes, to go with this dolly."

His daughter took the doll, her imagination already seeing the games she and her new friend would play.

"Momma, momma, daddy finished, and he said you would give her some clothes and paint her pretty!"

Her mother smiled tenderly at her baby girl, who was growing so big, too fast. "Yes darling, I would be happy to make your new friend some clothes. Let me have her for a few days, and I will try to work my magic."

Each morning she came to breakfast, with sleep still in her eyes, and dreams of this new friend on her mind.

"Momma, is Dorothy done yet?" She asked, rubbing her baby blues as she yawned the sleep out of her little body.

"Yes baby, as a matter of fact she is, and you can play with her after you fill your tummy." She watched as her daughter gobbled her breakfast down, amazed someone could eat so fast.

"Where's Alice honey?" her husband asked as he strolled into the kitchen.

"See for yourself," his wife said with a smile.

He looked out the window grinning. (Now this is magic) he thought, seeing his Alice in "Wonderland," dancing like a tornado with her Dorothy.

Challenge done for Shen...Tell of magic, and not in the literal sense, but the illusion of it...300 words or less...Flash Fiction...

Should Dorothy's shoes be ruby red, like in the movie, or silver, like in the book?

Brillant answer to the challenge... makes me recall the old film The Bluebird, about two children's search for that elusive bird of happiness. great storytelling!
