"Gods and Lions"

"Gods and Lions"

A Poem by Tommy
"

Just something that popped into my head as a thunderstorm rolled in today...

"

They walk among the clouds,

the gods with their lions; a pride,

hear their thunderous march, rolling,

while mercy cries

towards the heavens;

yearning for rain,

wanting to be

washed clean from violence.

(Piss and mark your territory;

     I will not fight for freedom)

And Zeus answers within

the crack of his whipping bolt,

"Then you will die a slave

to hypocrisy!"...

LOL this is good. Stand up or die sitting down being the only two options. I think the ending clearly blames man for what goes on here and not God. We can either fight for what we believe in or we can be a slave and give lip service to what we believe in. There is a difference and your poem clearly shows that.

Tommy...the King of Weather and all that he surveys. Writes only those alabaster lines that if treated with the care and compassion they deserve, will bring out the truth as it is written in the stones of Mt. Olympus and in the hearts of the creatures that live life by the minute and are content with a full belly and short nap. Great writing...let the storms roll in.

Most excellent write, Tommy.. love the choice between fight for what you believe in or become a slave to it.

I know I probably dont see things the way others do. I liked the idea of what seemed to me - sinners crying to the heavens for mercy not justice. A leap of faith that only the brave lions or those with nothing left to lose can make. Im not too worried if my review seems crazy (which means I am really!) Thankyou Tommy, may the force be with you.

It's nice to see folks making a stand around here for what they believe, or what they'd like to see happen in this blessed world we all find ourselves in... creativity like this goes a long way in helping "wake" folks from a slumber.
Potently put, my friend... well done.

This has a strong ending and the title fits this poem very well. I love the last stanza. It makes us think.
