Tough Love

Tough Love

A Poem by Tim McGovern

I swallow her cast off cruelties
because love coats kisses with glass,
to dwell in her favor
one must take her nails.

To live one must always be dying
a little inside.

The poison of belief
shreds me slowly
where no one can see.

Sometimes she asks about my cough
.

I think *I* died a bit inside after reading this. It was absolutely astounding.
"Love coats kisses with glass" - I am so jealous that I did not think of that line.
this is painful and sexy and masochistic in ten lines. (a man after my own -at times- minimalist heart).
I really cannot get enough of this.

I know exactly what (and who) this is about. Love and pain, slow death and acceptance. I feel like the second line needs a "must" somewhere to make the strophe more logical. Maybe

I swallow her cast off cruelties
because love must coat kisses
with glass to dwell in her favor
one must take her nails.

But I love the length and the short strophes each with one powerful image. Ees good Timmy.

And yes mine that you just read is new. I got it from a challenge I started at the baaaad place. But's it's a great challenge. I'll mail it to you or you can just lurk in and look at it. xo. (I always love you too and no nails!)
