Scars from struggles I’m still fighting

Scars as painful reminders

Scars remind me I’m alive

 

Secrets from pasts I try to forget

Secrets from pasts others drain on me

Secrets as silent slayers

Secrets to hold and keep

 

Sadness from years lost

Sadness from years losing

Sadness as emptiness

Sadness to overcome

 

Eyes wander over my face, judging every inconsistency

I smile, distracting the eyes from my social failures to the front

The mask

 

Mirrors reflect back to me

The emptiness

The reminders

The sorrow

 

Unearned love and an icy heart

Pasted onto a lifeless face

Staring back in the mirror

I hardly recognize myself anymore
