The Flame

The Flame

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

It dances on the waxen stick...

"

The Flame

The flame is dancing on the waxen stick
Dancing shadows on the wall are cast
As the gases burn quick
For a while the flame will last.
All around it sends a warm glow
As it dances in the breeze
Putting on a spectacular show
Dancing away at its ease
As down the stick the wax will flow
The sight, the eye will please
As when when short of light
You see a candle in the night
And take pleasure in the sight
Of the flames dancing left and right.
Is this really a dancing flame:
Or is The Breezes Puppet its real name?
