A tedious routine...

A tedious routine...

A Poem by Tom
"

I didn't get picked for a game today but I'm not disheartened ...Really I'm not!!

"
Monday to Friday twice daily
I commute on a weekly ticket,
as the wheels of the train go around,
clickety, clickety, click it,

A tedious routine and though
I am thoroughly sick of it,
what keeps me going is come Saturday
I will exult at the wicket,

Leather v willow, ball striking bat
playing and enjoying cricket,
so unless my 6 numbers come up in the lotto
for the next twenty years, I'll just have to stick it !

Thank you kindly, SyberRose!
I like the use of alliteration and assonance in here. I also can relate to the fact that what we do everyday seems boring but we have to embrace it because it gives us a living.
Witty piece, Tom. Like it.

i love the fact all of the last words rhyme which is not easy to do, this poem flows and is interesting as it is based on such a simple thing in every day life, overall, great job! :)

your very welcome! :)
Ah, yes the daily commute! For me it was football (American, although Australian football is great to watch on TV, I've never played) or basketball depending on the time of year that provided that weekend sporting relief. There was no organized cricket in the area, so I have never played it seriously. I have enjoyed playing some backyard cricket with a couple of my English friends and their kids at their homes. Sports of all types are of interest. I certainly identified with this write!

The rhythm sounds just like a train! Brilliant. You could spend the journey composing poems, but please, not all about cricket!

Ah but there is always the cricket.......The game of life can't be won or lost on an umpire's dodgy decision....Liked the poem Tom

Yes, Tom, I can relate to this one. I have to drive over 50 miles a day round trip to my job and I'm close to retirement age but maybe still far from retirement. Sigh . . . And on Saturdays I do chores. But when I think of those without a job, I am very grateful to have one at all. Many will be able to relate to this poem Do you write poetry on your commute? I loved your humorous ending.

Ah, the lament of a working man. working the regular 9 to 5 job could sometimes be tedious and dull. but at least all of us may have something to look forward on a weekend. very realistic write.
