PhoenixA Poem by Tory StellerA short tale about a beautiful myth.
Through seas of haze it flies the torch
On wings ablaze the sky is scorched Eyes containing tears of prayer Gold and scarlet pierce the air A thousand years it's flown this course The fire bird of nature's force It's beauty fills the air with song When something wicked comes along Up above, and from afar Falls to Earth, a dying star It cracks the myth upon its crown The phoenix plummets to the ground The seas retire. The breeze stands still Witnessing a scene unreal The miracle of heaven's grace Is plucked away by death's embrace Darkness sweeps across the Earth No light or warmth, the sky is cursed The world is black a thousand years And every night the sky sheds tears Until those droplets come to splash Upon the bird who burnt to ash And rising from that mournful site A little chick aglow with light Its cry rouses the sleeping land Forest. Mountain. Ocean. Sand With hope restored the world revives Overjoyed the bird's alive Its fed by trees and nature nusred As lakes and rivers quench its thirst In cold and darkness it endures And in a year the bird matures It's feathers spark in blazing gold And chase away the icy cold The phoenix wings command the wind It flaps and falls to rise again The sky reminds it of its course Its flight slays darkness at its source A pulse returns, and up above Soars the bird of life and love © 2013 Tory Steller |
